An unused bedroom is transformed into a glamorous retreat thanks to a budget-friendly makeover. An up-cycled chair, jewelry hooks, a full-length mirror and more simple DIY projects give this bedroom double-duty functions.
Embellish a Plain Lampshade with Stripes
Step 1: Measure the circumference of the top and bottom of the lampshade. Divide into an even number of equally spaced sections and connect the marks to create vertical stripes. Step 2: At every other section, attach painter’s tape vertically along the lampshade. Step 3: Paint the exposed stripes black; let dry. Remove tape.
Decorate an Accent Wall
Decorate walls with fun picture frames. Cut four angled pieces of medium-density fiberboard to fit your picture, join them together with wood glue and corner braces, and attach a hanger to the back. Spray-paint the frame, let it dry, and tape or staple your picture to the back of the frame.
DIY Side Table
Upgrade a garden urn or unused side table with a terra-cotta saucer and spray paint. Step 1: Spray-paint the urn or table and a terra-cotta saucer. Let dry. Step 2: Place a strip of painter’s tape on each side of the saucer to create handles. Gently lower the saucer on top of the urn or table and use the tape to adjust. Once the saucer is in the desired position, tear off tape ends.
Create a Storage-Filled Nook
A few creative decorating ideas make this nook the perfect place to get ready for a night on the town. Soft purple walls bring a colorful contrast to the black-and-white wall. Stylish DIY projects add storage and décor and make getting ready easier.
Organize Jewelry with Decorative Hooks
Inexpensive painted hooks keep jewelry organized and within easy reach. They also provide a simple way to add wall décor. Spray-paint small craft finials and let dry. Attach each finial to the wall with a plastic drywall anchor.
Refresh an Old Chair with Spray Paint
Use spray paint to transform an old chair into a vanity seat that matches your bedroom décor. Wash and dry the chair. Spray a coat of rust-fighting primer on the entire chair. Apply spray paint to the chair and let dry. Depending on the chair, it may take two or more coats to complete.
Store Shoes in Style
Use storage containers in unexpected ways. Mount a pair of 3-shelf organizers on an empty wall to create a distinctive shoe organizer. Paint the inside of each square to help shoes stand out. Plus, this keeps favorite footwear handy and acts as a decorative display.
Help a Full-Length Mirror Stand Out
A glamorous frame adds pizzazz to a full-length mirror, gives blank walls stenciled style and makes getting ready fun. A painted slab door, a simple stencil and a rectangular mirror are all it takes to create the picture-frame effect.
