The importance of teamwork is inarguable when it comes to creating a successful real estate office culture. “We take our job seriously, and living up to our vision can only be achieved by working together as a team,” explains Tommy Camp, President and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Carolinas Realty in Winston-Salem, N.C. “Here, everyone has a hand in calling the plays.” For more of Camp’s sage industry insights, read on.

Camp_TommyRegion served: Charlotte, Raleigh-Durham, Chapel Hill, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, N.C.
Years in real estate: 33
Number of offices: 13
Number of agents: 640+
Key to real estate success: Focus on what’s important to your clients.
One piece of advice you would offer new agents: Commit yourself to exceeding expectations for professionalism and exemplary service and build long-term relationships based on trust and care.

Can you describe the current consumer-confidence climate in your area?
Consumer confidence has returned and we have every reason to believe that 2014 will be a great year for residential real estate. With interest rates remaining at historic lows and employment numbers looking much better today than they have in recent years—along with prices continuing to increase—now’s a great time to be a buyer or seller, and consumers are taking notice.

When it comes to training, what strategies have you found to be most effective among your agents?
Education and training have always been a top priority in our company. Our experience has taught us that a combination of classroom and in-the-field training, in addition to weekly coaching sessions, is the best approach. Therefore, we have ongoing education and training sessions available for our agents every week in each of our offices. This combination has served us well, especially with the new tools we have access to through the Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices brand. As real estate professionals, we have to be getting better all the time, and through coaching and training, we live up to our company’s vision: We Make Great Neighbors in Everything We Do.

What sets your company apart from the competition?
Our sales associates, managing brokers and the individuals who make up our support staff, all of whom are dedicated to serving not only one another, but our clients as well. We take our job seriously, and living up to our vision can only be achieved by working together as a team. Here, everyone has a hand in calling the plays.

You recently began operating as part of the Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Network. How will this affiliation benefit your company moving forward?
The name change and response have exceeded our highest expectations and I believe it’s because the name stands for strength, integrity and operational excellence. And yet, it’s still what’s behind the name that matters most—our sales associates who are charged with delivering our services to our clients and the communities we serve. The technology, marketing, advertising and training that comes with the new brand—and the positive impact it’s had on the level of service our associates are now able to provide to our clients—has truly positioned us to serve our clients in a fashion that’s unequaled and unmatched in every market we serve across North Carolina.
