Howard Hanna Acquires N.Y.’s Nothnagle Realtors

At a joint press conference held in Rochester, N.Y. Wednesday, Howard W. “Hoddy” Hanna, III, Chairman and CEO of Hanna Holdings, Inc., and Armand D’Alfonso, President and CEO of Nothnagle Realtors, announced that Nothnagle Realtors has joined forces with Howard Hanna Real Estate Services.

“I look forward to working with Armand and the entire Nothnagle team during the years to come as we share best practices and business opportunities throughout the Great Lakes Region of the Howard Hanna family of companies,” said Howard W. “Hoby” Hanna IV, President of Howard Hanna Real Estate Services.

“I’ve known the Hanna family for years through our mutual affiliation with Leading Real Estate Companies of the World®.  Their innovative technology, commitment to top-quality service and family ownership closely mirror the culture of our company,” said D’Alfonso.

Nothnagle Realtors is the number one broker in Western New York, and the 3rd largest in the state of New York, with 32 office locations serving upstate New York throughout the Western, Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions.   The company has over 900 agents and employees and is ranked the 42nd largest real estate company in the country for transaction volume with closed sales volume of $1.4 billion and 9,568 closed transactions last year, according to RISMedia’s 2015 Power Broker Report.

The family-owned Howard Hanna Real Estate Services is the number one broker in the state of Pennsylvania, number one in the state of Ohio, and the 4th largest in the country for transaction volume, according to RISMedia’s 2015 Power Broker Report, with 6,400 agents and employees in 173 offices across eight states.   Howard Hanna has four offices in New York, located in Chautauqua County in Fredonia, Mayville, Chautauqua Institution and Lakewood/Jamestown.

The combined performance of the joint Nothnagle and Howard Hanna companies in 2014 was $11.3 billion in closed sales volume and 61,776 closed transactions.  The combined strength of the companies is more than 7,300 agents and employees with 205 offices in the eight states of Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, Virginia, Michigan, West Virginia, North Carolina and Maryland.

Coincidentally, both companies use the same colors of green and gold for their logos and marketing materials. Additional points of similarity include both that debuted “Showcase of Homes” television shows in the mid-1980s: Nothnagle, first in the country to do so in 1985, followed closely by Howard Hanna in 1986; both debuted their properties for sale on the internet in 1995; both have been in business for 50+ years; and both have some of the largest market share percentages in the country:  Nothnagle in Western New York, Howard Hanna in Northeast Ohio and in Western Pennsylvania.
