Colors Jump from Fashion Runways to Your Hallways, Furniture

fashion_runwayIt’s lights, camera and time for action when it comes to freshening up your interior spaces this spring and summer. I was intrigued by a recent blog from Koket founder Janet Morais (bykoket.com) who among many creative projects—recently provided exquisite interior design ideas for the film, “Fifty Shades of Gray.”

Morais conveyed how a lot of great lines, colors and patterns this year have jumped from the materials she is seeing on the trendiest runway models to home furnishings, dynamic accent pieces and even the walls and surfaces of homes.

She notes that loose geometric shapes have already been spreading like wildfire. And Morais believes the color of the moment is ochre—a rich, deep yellow she is seeing in a variety of textures and styles on the NYFW runways of everyone from Michael Kors to Tory Burch.

“Whether it’s splashed on midi-length dresses or overcoats and capes, ochre is the season’s hottest color,” Morais says. “Ochre is also becoming more popular when it comes to home design, practically demanding a standing ovation when paired with rich velvet jewel tones.”

Cobalt blue is another color Morias says isn’t going anywhere for quite a while, having made splashes at several Fall 2014 and Spring 2015 runway shows, she says it’s a bold enough hue to stand on its own, but it still has a special ability to complement the lighter blues in the color family.

Metallic tones and stark modern black and white graphic prints are taking center stage both on and off the runway. In their Fall/Winter 2014 line, Morias observed that Scandinavian design company Oyoy is integrating graphic textiles with soft neutral woods and hints of mint.

At retailmenot.com, designer Blanche Garcia, Hotel Impossible star and owner of B. Garcia Designs says after spring decluttering brings you down, add a little pep to your design step by bringing color into your storage pieces.

Garcia decided to pick up the watery blues from her floor border tile by customizing a bath vanity in a soothing sky-blue paint color. She says put your own personal spin on storage pieces and put the fun back into their functions.
