Tips for Shopping at an Apple Store

Tips for Shopping at an Apple Store

Glendale, United States - October 24, 2015: Apple store entrance and sign. Apple Inc. is an American multinational technology company.

Switching to Apple’s products can be expensive. Its computers, phones and other electronic devices are often more costly than Windows products.

Apple’s website isn’t the only place to buy an iPhone or anything else Apple. Best Buy, Target, some warehouse stores, phone retailers and of course the Apple Store give customers a chance to check out the latest gadget in person.

The Apple Store may be your best bet because its staff is trained in everything Apple. Here are some ways to take advantage of that knowledge at an Apple Store and potentially save some money:

Apple no longer sells refurbished items at the counter
Customers used to be able to walk into an Apple Store and ask employees if they had any returns or refurbished products in the back of the store. The items are usually discounted, sometimes heavily.

Now, you have to go to the Apple website to find and buy open-box items, returns and other refurbished Apple products.

But don’t let “refurbished” scare you. It doesn’t mean “repaired,” only that it was checked out to meet Apple’s standards. Repairs may have been part of that process, but may not have been needed. Either way, you’ll still get the same one-year limited warranty you would with a new product.

Price match
If you see a cheaper price for an Apple Macbook or another Apple product at Best Buy or another retailer, tell an Apple Store employee, who can ask for authorization to verify and match the competing price. Warehouse club prices, however, won’t be matched.

No commission
One of the great things about an Apple Store is that you can get expert help and be free to browse without having to worry about a pushy or impatient salesperson who is working on commission. That’s because Apple employees don’t earn a commission.

That said, it can take a little time to get some help from an Apple “specialist,” but once you do, you’ll get all of your questions answered without any high-pressure sales tactics. This should make shopping easier and a lot faster.

Online order help
Buying a computer can be intimidating. You may not be sure how much processing speed or memory you need, or how the other features of one computer over another could benefit you. Not only will an Apple Store employee help you with all of this, they’ll also walk you through buying a computer online if you want.

Why? Because other than the basic model, the store probably won’t have the souped-up model you want that includes the tech specs you want to add. More computer memory costs more money and your customized laptop will have to be built and shipped from elsewhere.

You can have it shipped to your home or to the store, where an employee can walk you through its features and how to transfer information from your old computer to the new one.
