What Real Estate Professionals Need to Know About Facebook’s App Permission Changes-Before It Affects Your Business

Facebook is in the process of rolling out changes to its platform, this time to its developer platform, where, among other changes, it will no longer allow apps to post to your personal profile.

Announced in April, Facebook’s permission changes went into effect at that time for new apps, but gave developers until this month to make the appropriate posting permissions changes for any existing apps. The change was made to prevent any apps that users log in to via Facebook from automatically posting content to your profile (personal page) without your knowingly clicking a link to post it.

This may come as a welcome change for those who may forget to change their settings and don’t want the content from certain apps to automatically show on their profile; however, this change also affects any apps you may be using expressly FOR that purpose, many of whom are busy real estate professionals who may be using a real estate auto-posting platform to manage or supplement their social media content online.

The good news is Facebook’s permission changes do not affect Facebook Pages, however, so if you are using an app for the purpose of automatically posting content, the simple solution is to redirect your auto posts to a Facebook Business Page, or create one if you don’t have one already. Facebook Pages are public profiles that let businesses, brands, organizations, artists, public figures and nonprofits connect with their fans or customers. Facebook Pages have many benefits for business use and are very easy to set up.

RISMedia has created this brief video on how to create a Facebook page for members of its auto-posting platform, ACE. Our Daily e-News readers can also use this video to learn the basics on how to create a Business Page. RISMedia’s social media auto-posting platform, ACE (Automated Content Engagement), automatically posts real estate and lifestyle related articles, videos, infographics and Q&As to agents’ Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter pages, to save them time and help them manage their social pages.
