Halloween: Not Just for Kids

109homespunweb.jpgRISMEDIA, Oct. 9, 2007-According to a recent survey sponsored by SHOP.COM, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie (“Brangelina”) top this year’s list of Halloween dream couple costumes adults expect to see, beating out other celebrity couples including Bill and Hillary Clinton, David and Victoria Beckham and Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.

SHOP.COM commissioned the “Dreams and Nightmares Halloween ‘07” survey in partnership with Russell Omnibus, who surveyed 1,048 online adults across the United States from September 14-17, 2007.

Additional survey results found that more than one in three Americans and 44% of parents plan to decorate their homes for Halloween; the average American will spend approximately $76.00 on home decoration and other Halloween items this season.

“Obviously, Halloween is not just for kids anymore,” said Mondy Beller, senior vice president of marketing for SHOP.COM. “We’re seeing clear evidence of a growing trend in adult participation and increased spending for this holiday. More and more adults not only have Halloween plans but are also anticipating spending significant money on decorations and adult costumes. Some are even planning to go trick-or-treating themselves.”

The survey results also revealed that one in four adults plan to dress up this Halloween and 20% plan to go trick-or-treating for themselves. Halloween ranks as one of the top three favorite holidays among half of Americans aged 25-54 years and among sixty-four percent of parents. More than two-thirds (68%) of those surveyed aged 18-34 years also place Halloween in their top three. Additionally, 73% of adults and 85% of parents have Halloween plans, with the majority (55% of adults and 61% of parents) looking forward to handing out candy to trick-or-treaters.
