Decking the Halls With Neutral Holiday Decor

Decking the Halls With Neutral Holiday Decor

The holidays can be hectic, chaotic and fast-paced. So, if you’re looking for a way to create calm this holiday season, consider selecting a neutral holiday decor scheme. Simplifying your holiday decor will keep the cliche holiday decor out of your home and will seamlessly integrate with your home’s existing design style. If you’re looking to create a serene seasonal backdrop, read on for tips on integrating a neutral holiday decor palette into your home.

Edit Selectively
As you plan your holiday decor scheme, be selective with the items you display and be discerning with new items you purchase. Unless you’re confident it will seamlessly integrate with your neutral holiday decor scheme, avoid displaying it.

Be Deliberate With Your Color Scheme
Avoid cliche holiday themes by selecting an edited, neutral color scheme. Possible color combinations include creams and metallics; white and brown; green and brown; green and white; green and navy; or blue, white and green. Carry the subtle color palette throughout your various holiday vignettes.

Sumptuous Fabrics
To prevent your neutral scheme from falling flat, incorporate many textures for a luxe, cozy look. Combine various welcoming fabrics, such as cashmere, velvet, wool, mohair and faux fur to create a nurturing, inviting space.

Style a Neutral Tree
As the main focal point of seasonal decor, keep your tree understated. Anchoring the tree with a woven tree collar, draping it with rows of white string lights and decorating it with an edited collection of neutral ornaments, such as glass or metallics, will result in a beautifully edited tree.

Emphasize Light
The holiday season is about warmth and spending time with loved ones. A house filled with layered lighting provides the ambiance for cozy nights spent on the sofa watching holiday movies. Adorn your mantle, light fixtures, greenery, banister, and of course, the tree, with soft light string lights to provide a soothing ambiance.

Bring the Outdoors Inside
Bringing natural elements indoors creates an organic seasonal backdrop and breathes life into the home. Whether you display a bowl of pinecones, drape evergreen garland on the banister, hang wreaths throughout the interior, add evergreen boughs to light fixtures, or display birch tree logs in a basket, bringing these outdoor elements inside brings an organic elegance to your home. Additionally, these items can remain displayed well after the holidays are over, as they aren’t holiday-specific.

Simmer a Seasonal Scent
A seasonal aroma wafting through the home is the perfect finishing touch for a neutral holiday theme. Avoid an overpowering scent that scented candles can often deliver by boiling a pot of water and filling it with oranges, cloves and cinnamon sticks, and bringing it to a simmer. Instead, the subtle scent will fill your home with a pleasant holiday aroma.

A neutral holiday decor scheme will transform your home into a calm and bright winter wonderland. Editing your holiday accents will create a serene space, perfect for focusing on what matters this holiday season — family, friends and gratitude.
