Shannon McGahn

National Association of REALTORS®

Shannon McGahn, the first female chief advocacy officer at the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR), has led a complete redesign of its federal advocacy team, strengthened key relationships with congressional leaders, and secured victories on NAR’s top federal priorities.

In 2021, NAR supported stimulus payments and aid for state and local governments, expanded child tax credits, fought for an extension of jobless benefits, and sought additional funding for small business aid and rental assistance. NAR also advocated on behalf of the Build Back Better Plan.

NAR supported many benefits included in the social infrastructure bill but expressed concern that proposed tax increases on real estate could cost jobs and slow economic growth. NAR worked to have the leading threats excluded from the bill.

“There is no such thing as a federal issue versus a state or local issue,” McGahn says. “If it impacts one of us, it impacts all of us. Collaboration at all levels is essential to our overall success.”
