15th Annual Sunshine Kids Celebrity Golf Classic ‘Hits another One Out of the Park’

September 11, 2007
Reading Time: 2 mins read

RISMEDIA, Sept. 12, 2007-Prudential Gary Greene, Realtors, founding sponsor of the Annual Sunshine Kids Golf Classic, reported record support pushing the 15-year total over $2.5 million dollars at this year’s event. Craig Biggio and his wife, Patty, once again hosted the event.Over 300 golfers braved the heat for The Celebrity Golf portion on Thursday, August 9, at the Wildcat Golf Club. The Gala celebration and auction was attended by over 800 supporters on Saturday, August 11, at the Hornberger Conference Center, breaking all records for the event.

It was an emotional week for the Biggio family. Along with The Sunshine Kids Golf Classic events, Biggio was honored at Minute Maid Park on Sunday, August 12 for his achievements with the Astros organization and his involvement with The Sunshine Kids. One of the highlights was a tribute to his father by Conor Biggio, Craig & Patty’s oldest son.

Established in 1982 in Houston, The Sunshine Kids Foundation supports more than 1,400 children and their families, and is dedicated to providing positive group activities, free of charge, for children with cancer. This includes activities in the Greater Houston area, as well as trips for children across the United States. The Sunshine Kids Foundation is not dependent on government funding. All monies come from individuals, foundations and corporations.

Prudential Gary Greene, Realtors is the founding sponsor of the event, and First American Title Co. has been a major sponsor of the event since its inception. Other sponsors for this year’s event included NPC; Houston Chronicle; Carrabba’s; White Oak Energy, LP; UBS; Republic Beverage; American Association of Drilling Engineers; Avadek, Baker Tools, Kolmar Americas, Ltd., Schlumberger, Tejas Office Products, The Linda & Jerry Strickland Family Foundation, Teadit, N.A. Inc., Thompson Land Co., Ocean Hospitalities, Brubaker & Associates, Graebel, Office Systems of Texas, Sterling Bank, Stewart Title of Houston, Three K Consultants, Absolute Color, Pura Flo Corporation, eGreenFees.com, Instal-Lite Glass Systems, Inc.; Peak Roofing, Inc.; Technology Support, Inc.; Coca-Cola; Houston Distributing; Reliant Energy; Skeeter’s Mesquite Grill; Barrett Burke Wilson Castle Daffin & Frappier LLP; Carr’s General Contracting; Jon Corbell & Associates, P.C.; Cal Dive International; Echo Marine, Ltd.; W/S Turkey Creek Ranch, LLC; Gard’s Quality Printing; and Whataburger.

“Each year more people become involved, and each year we raise more money for the Kids,” said Biggio. “In all our personal and professional accomplishments, we have enjoyed no greater privilege than to share some time with The Sunshine Kids. In sports coverage, commentators are always using phrases like ‘courage’ and ‘heart.’ The Kids show us the real meaning of these terms.”
