Selling By Serving

When we think about using video in real estate applications, the main focus is often on home video tours. Or if we’re really creative, maybe an interview with the homeowner, or an agent profile. While there’s nothing wrong with that approach, maybe it’s time to think outside the box.

Instead of thinking about selling, think about serving. Since agents are in the business of providing information, let’s open the umbrella a bit. Consider interviewing local experts on a variety of issues a buyer might be interested in. A local mortgage broker could talk about various forms of financing; a landscaper could discuss the basics of beautifying your yard; the head of the neighborhood association could talk about social activities or discuss covenants; a consultant could discuss practical ways of going green. The list is limited only by your imagination.

A decent video camera, and hopefully an external mic and tripod, are all you need. Carefully craft your questions and focus on getting self-explanatory answers that are simple and to the point. Use the videos on your website, Facebook, Twitter, and in your email and newsletters. You’ll be enhancing your reputation while serving your clients—and that’s good business!
