Located near the Cap d’Ail harbor and the Mediterranean Sea, The Château de l’Ermitage (otherwise known as Château Mallet) was originally built in 1896 and later redesigned and extended in 1961. With over 8,600 square feet of living space (and about 2,100 square feet of service rooms), the Château is really something you only see on TV or in the movies…a Bond villain’s hideout or a rapper’s paradise in his latest video, perhaps? To sum it up: it’s mega, sprawling, and epic.
Starting with the garden level, two entrances (one through a ballroom and a second more formal one) lead to the reception rooms. There’s a large living room, library, scullery (yes, just like in “Downton Abbey”), and the kitchen. In one wing is a pool house with two shower rooms and bathrooms. In another wing, staff can rest their weary legs in one of two bedrooms, which also has its own bathroom and service entrance.
On the first floor, there are about 100 more bedrooms. Just kidding! Five additional bedrooms can be found, all with private toilets and some with private lounges. A staff apartment can also be found here, along with a laundry room.
