5 Ways to Help Your Client Prepare for an Open House

prepare_for_open_house_BH&GOne of the best ways to generate leads is to get face-to-face with your best clients. However, it can be tricky to find an opportunity to do so. After all, they’re busy, you’re busy, and you don’t want to feel like you’re annoying them.

Pop-Bys provide an opportunity to touch base with your clients. An important part of the Work by Referral System, Pop-Bys are small gifts of appreciation that you deliver to your best clients to show your appreciation for their business and referrals and to let them know that you’re thinking of them. When used along with the other parts of the System—Marketing Flyers, eReports, calls and personal notes—they help to solidify your role as your clients’ trusted advisor.  They’re part of the stacking effect that helps you build lasting relationships with your clients.

The summer offers plenty of opportunities to get out in the warm sunshine and deliver thoughtful gifts to your favorite people—the clients who bring a smile to your face and are happy to see you. Starting with your favorite people gives you a boost of confidence and motivation so that you can deliver more Pop-Bys and plant the seeds for future referrals.

What if they’re not home?

Although it’s a good idea to call first, especially if you’re in the neighborhood, you can still deliver your Pop-By gift when your client isn’t home, provided that it’s not perishable. Take a photo of the gift on your client’s doorstep, and text them the photo with a short message telling them that you’re sorry you missed them. That way your clients know you’re thinking of them and can look forward to a nice surprise when they get home.

Squeeze in Pop-Bys while you’re out and about.

Any time is a good time to deliver a Pop-By!  Showing a home or hosting an open house? Find clients who live nearby and deliver a Pop-By to them while you’re in the neighborhood. Keep a few Pop-By items in the trunk of your car so that you can make the most productive use of your time in the car.

One final tip

A Pop-By should only take a few minutes of your and your clients’ time. Even if they insist that you stay for bit and chat, set a time limit and excuse yourself when the time is up (but not before reminding them that you’re never too busy for any of their referrals).  Remember, it’s called a ‘Pop’-By, not a ‘Make-Yourself-at-Home-on-the-Couch’-By.
