Branding Your Home Through the 5 Senses

Branding Your Home Through the 5 Senses

Creating a signature brand for your home goes beyond your design and decorating style. It’s the mood that emanates from your home from the minute your guests walk in. If you’ve recently purchased a new home, take some time to consider how you want your guests to feel when they’re in your home, and equally as important, how you want to feel. Considering the five senses—smell, sight, taste, sound and touch—you can discerningly select these elements as you design your home’s unique brand. Use the following as a guide to help you curate your home’s signature style to help you make a lasting impression on everyone who enters.

Signature Scent
The sense of smell is closely tied to memory and emotion, so it will truly leave a lasting impression. Whether you want your space to be associated with the fresh scent of citrus, the floral scent of rose or a masculine scent like leather, layer the aroma throughout your home. You can do this through candles, oil diffusers, hand soaps and room sprays.

Signature Botanicals
While many flowers and greenery are seasonal, there are still plenty of varieties that are available year-round. Whether you prefer orchids, hydrangeas, or opt for branches and greenery, displaying signature fresh foliage throughout will visually brand your home. Selecting a color palette is another option for creating your signature botanicals. Perhaps you arrange only white flower bouquets or only large seasonal branches. Regardless if you choose a signature flower type or color palette, having consistent botanicals can leave a lasting visual impression.

Signature Beverage
Maybe it’s always having fresh, paper-thin sliced lemons available for water, nitro brew cold brew on draft or a signature or cocktail. Whatever the refreshment of choice is, having a beverage that guests can count on every time they enter your home signals it’s time to relax and let the good times begin. Or, perhaps it’s a ritual, such as a stop by the beverage center, a trip down to the wine cellar or the consistency of always knowing there will be fresh lemons. Guests will appreciate knowing in advance what they can sip on.

Signature Soundtrack
A soundtrack sets the overall vibe. The best soundtracks are a carefully curated selection of different genres of music, punctuated by a signature category. If you strive to have a relaxing atmosphere highlighted by acoustic hits, or a lively mood brought out with an upbeat Motown playlist, your home’s soundtrack will provide the background for the vibe you wish to achieve.

Signature Textiles
The sense of touch helps your guests feel physically comfortable in your home. Whether it’s always having a pair of spare slippers for your guests, having all wool rugs underfoot or all cashmere blankets to use when your guests curl up on the sofa, having a curated blend of signature textiles will help your guests always feel right at home.

It’s the little things that go a long way. It doesn’t matter if you’re branding your home with you or your guests in mind, it’s ultimately about selecting the details that will create a space to greet all who enter with warmth, comfort and the elements that are undoubtedly you.
