Should You Buy a House With a Stone Façade?

When you look at houses for sale, you’ll probably see a lot with vinyl siding, as well as some covered with wood shingles or brick. You might even come across some properties decorated with stone. If you’ve never owned a house with a stone façade, you might not be aware of its benefits. Here are some things you should know.

Stone Is Durable
Its strength is one of the main reasons why stone has traditionally been used to construct houses and other buildings. Stone is a tough, long-lasting material that can stand up to harsh weather, fire, rot, rodents and insects better than other types of cladding materials can.

Stone Is Beautiful and Timeless
Buyers are often drawn to houses with stone façades for aesthetic reasons. Stone is available in a wide array of attractive colors and textures. Stone is also versatile enough to complement virtually any type of architectural design. Since it’s a natural material, stone contains variations and imperfections. If you want to own a house that’s like no other, you might be drawn to properties decorated with stone because each piece is unique.

A Stone Façade Requires Little Maintenance
A house with a stone exterior is surprisingly easy to care for. You can simply spray off dirt and grime with a hose. You shouldn’t use chemicals or harsh cleaning products since they can cause damage.  Exposure to the elements can damage siding. If you buy a house with siding, you’ll have to repaint it periodically to maintain its curb appeal.

If you own a house with a stone façade, you won’t have to worry about painting it every few years. You might, however, have to apply a sealant from time to time to protect the stone from harsh weather.

A Stone House Can Save You Money
For homebuyers, keeping utility costs down is often a top priority. Insulation can help regulate a house’s interior temperature.

Stone is a natural insulator. A house that’s covered with stone can retain heat in the winter, which means you won’t have to spend a fortune to run your furnace. In the summer, a stone façade can help keep the inside of the house cool so you won’t have to constantly run the air conditioner.

Stone Can Block out Noise
If you’re thinking about buying a house on a busy street, you might be concerned about how noise would affect your quality of life. A house with a stone façade can eliminate those worries. Stone can block out noise from vehicles and other sources so you can enjoy peace and quiet.

Choose the House That’s Right for You
A home with a stone façade offers outstanding curb appeal, easy maintenance, energy efficiency, and long-term savings. Consider these benefits and figure out if a house decorated with stone is the best choice for you.
