The Need for Safe and Responsible AI in 2025

Although AI may feel like the genie that’s already out of the bottle, ongoing advancements allow for implementing stronger safeguards.

Trust and relationships drive our industry’s success, but artificial intelligence’s (AI) rapid adoption in real estate poses incredible opportunities and significant dangers.

Nearly 56% of homebuyers and sellers say the reputation of an agent and their ability to trust them are the most important factors when choosing an agent, according to the National Association of REALTORS®.

However, will the rapid adoption of AI jeopardize or strengthen this foundation in 2025?

The independence paradox: Empowering agents while protecting brokerages

Real estate agents pride themselves on their independence. While autonomy drives innovation and creativity, it can also lead to unintended consequences when agents adopt AI tools without understanding their full implications. Unvetted AI use could expose brokerages to liability risks, from data breaches leaking confidential information to compliance issues and HUD rule violations.

In 2025, AI’s ubiquity amplifies these challenges. Brokers must strike a delicate balance: empower agents with tools that enhance productivity and help them compete while ensuring these tools operate within safe, responsible boundaries.

The urgency of ‘gates and guardrails’

AI’s transformative potential cannot be overstated, but neither can its risks. To navigate this landscape effectively, brokerages need marketing platforms with built-in gates and guardrails. These features ensure privacy, data protection and compliance while still delivering the efficiencies that successful agents demand.

Providing your agents access to vetted AI tools eliminates the guesswork and reduces your risks. Agents need seamlessly integrated AI capabilities that offer convenience and security into their workflows. By investing in platforms designed with these safeguards, brokers can mitigate risks and protect their reputations and help agents to perform at their best.

Collaboration, not control

Successful adoption of AI in 2025 requires a partnership between brokers and agents. Agents need tools that enhance their independence without compromising brokerage integrity. This calls for prioritizing AI solutions that deliver transparency and accountability.

Brokerages also have a vital ethical role as stewards of trust. By championing responsibility at every level, they can rebuild and sustain confidence in AI-driven processes. While AI’s proliferation may seem uncontrollable, staying proactive allows brokerages to shape a responsible future.

A shared path forward

The role of brokers in 2025 is not just to provide the right tech tools to agents but to help guide agents in using them responsibly. Successful brokerages foster a collaborative culture by championing platforms with the right gates and guardrails. Real-world examples of brokerages reducing liability incidents while enhancing agent productivity prove that risks can be managed effectively.

As you monitor and assess your use of AI in 2025, consider it a partnership: Vet your AI tech providers to ensure they deliver safe and responsible AI, so that brokers and agents can confidently navigate this transformative era. Although AI may feel like the genie that’s already out of the bottle, ongoing advancements allow for implementing stronger safeguards.
